Virah – Love through separation – Song

I’ve been watching this TV Series on Amazon Prime – Bandish Bandits – which follows the journey of a young man who, through his hard work, struggles, failures, and overcoming his insecurities, reaches the pinnacle of success.  

While the series was an entertaining watch, the music itself was astounding and never thought I’d be mesmerized by Hindustani classical music! In the final episode, and at a critical juncture in the story, this song comes up. I was spellbound; the song, the lyrics, had so much depth and pain. The most exciting part is the name of the composition, the Hindi word – Virah. As I have learned, it is a unique word to the Hindi language, and it is hard to find an exact translation. It is one of those words where the meaning is in the state of the mind of the listener. For me, it stood for the loneliness and love that arises out of separation. In my 5th day of room isolation, away from family, this emotion resonated with me.
